About Us
Solar Electric Manufacturers' Association Nepal [SEMAN] is an umbrella organization of Nepalese Solar Photovoltaic System Manufacturing Companies. It is a non-profit-making, non-governmental organization, registered under the Social Organizations Registration Act 2034 of Nepal, at District Administration Office, Babar Mahal, Kathmandu with Registration No. 39/057/058. As an autonomous association, it has been registered at Tax Revenues Office with PAN/VAT No. 301632018
Today, 52 solar PV companies are associated with this association and a number of companies have applied for its membership. 26 out of 52 members have been recognized by Government of Nepal, Alternative Energy Promotion Center/Energy Sector Assistance Program (AEPC/ESAP) as Pre-qualified Solar Electric Manufacturer Companies for the dissemination and installation of Solar Home Systems (SHS) countrywide whilst 35 have been recognized as Pre-Qualified Companies for installation of Small Solar Home Systems (SSHS).
SEMAN, as one of the vital partners of AEPC/ESAP, has played a pivotal role in production of technical human resources [Solar Electric Technicians Level I & II] required for the installation and after sales services (repair & maintenance) of Solar Photovoltaic Systems, both in field and central level. And, it has also been involved in research activities related to Solar Photovoltaic System in Nepal. Besides, through direct involvement in different level of policy formulation, such as ESAP Steering Committee, Task Force and RETS Management Committee, it has played a significant role in design and formulation of Government Policies and Rules related to renewable energy sector and environmental conservation. It has also been nominated as a member of Technical Committee of Renewable Energy Project, backed by European Commission in Nepal.
Government of Nepal has recently declared the state of ENERGY CRISIS in the nation and we are compelled to bear almost 16 to more than 10 hour power cut daily; the situation may remain for a number of year to come. Ironically, we're proud of being the world's second richest country in water resources, but the water level in our hydro power reservoirs are found substantially low in spring season. Severe effect of climate change and global warming has been experienced on snow level in our mountains and, eventually, in the amount of water falling into our giant hydro power stations. It is said that 40% of total population has access to electricity but when we go through anxiety of blackouts in capital city every evening, our soul can't believe on such facts.
In this context, the only option towards the solution of this crisis is adoption of modern energy technologies; and, Solar Photovoltaic Technology is of great attention. Technological simplicity, portability, wide range of power size and price, technical viability, ease in ownership, suitable for every class of people, instant power generation, simplicity in repair, maintenance and replacement and environment friendly features are the inherent beauty of solar photovoltaic system, that has made this technology more suitable for our country where we get around 300 days of sunshine in a year. Installation of more than one hundred and fifty thousand SHS and sixty thousand SSHS and uninterrupted growth in demand (around 1,000 SHS per week) proves the truth. And, obviously, SEMAN, in association with its associates, has to lead the overwhelming situation of current energy crisis in Nepal.
